Equipment Lending Library

Equipment sets are available to Oregon teachers who have participated in STEPs teacher workshops or who have had appropriate training in using the equipment.

Molecular Biology Equipment  

• Incubator
• Water bath
• Black lights for viewing green fluorescent protein
• Micropipette sets  (classroom sets for 8 stations, tips included)
• PCR thermocycler
• Gel electrophoresis chambers and power supplies (includes agarose and running buffer; rainbow dyes; DNA samples not provided)
• Spectrophotometers/colorimeters—4 units that measure at 440,470,490,520,550,580,590, and 680 nm
• DNA isolation set- from fruits and vegetables (blenders, small beakers, small glass tubes) (salt, detergent, and ethanol solutions not included )
• DNA isolation- cheek cell—small glass vials with screw caps

• Spectrophotometers/colorimeters- 4 small education models that measure at 440,470,490,520,550,580,590, and 680 nm (cuvettes provided)
